Partial Structured Data File (SDF) Upload allows Display & Video 360 users to update a subset of resource configurations for existing line items in bulk using Structured Data Files, with fewer columns than normally required by the Line Item file format.
By requiring fewer columns, Partial SDF Upload provides the following benefits:
- Lets you include a greater number of resources in a single uploaded file.
- Makes manual management of SDFs easier.
- No longer requires an uploaded SDF to be created from a previously-downloaded file.
- Reduces the time between initial file upload and the propagation of updates.
Partial SDF is only supported for Line Item SDFs.
How to use Partial SDF Upload
Follow these steps to build and upload a partial SDF:
Decide which line items and settings you want to update.
- Identify line items using the
Line Item Idcolumn. This column is required in every Partial SDF and must be populated in every file entry. Choose the columns to update from the Available Column Groups section.
- In order to update any column in a column group, all columns in that group must be present in the file.
- A file can include multiple column groups.
- Files with any incomplete column groups or columns not specifically supported by Partial SDF Upload will result in an error.
- Identify line items using the
Build the file in one of the following ways:
Use an existing SDF.
- Download a Line Item SDF containing the relevant line items, as you would when managing and uploading a standard SDF.
- Download an initial SDF containing all of the selected line items.
- Remove all columns that are not in the relevant Partial SDF column groups.
- Remove all line item entries that you are not going to update.
Build a new CSV file.
- Build a CSV file and only include headers for the columns in the relevant Partial SDF column groups.
- Add an entry to the file for every line item ID that will be updated.
Populate the new Partial SDF.
- If using a downloaded file, update the existing values for each line item
entry. Values that are not going to be updated don't need to be changed.
Partial SDF does not support the
Timestampcolumn. Any changes made to a line item between file download and partial SDF upload will be overwritten if the relevant column is included. - If using a new CSV file, populate all included columns for every line item entry. You can leave the value of a column intentionally empty, but upon upload that empty value will be saved as the new value for that line item setting.
- If using a downloaded file, update the existing values for each line item
entry. Values that are not going to be updated don't need to be changed.
Partial SDF does not support the
Upload the file to Display & Video 360 in the UI using the standard SDF upload process. No additional configurations are required to identify it as a Partial SDF. When the uploaded file is processed, result files will be available on the bulk status page noting which line items were successfully updated and which failed to update. Unlike a standard SDF upload, emails with result files aren't sent after Partial SDFs are uploaded and processed.
Sample files
We've provided three sample files that you can use to build your Partial SDF. Each sample uses a different combination of column groups. Each one includes a header row identifying the relevant columns and three rows that should be updated with the intended data before upload.
Download one of the following CSV files with the identified column groups to use as a template:
- Sample 1
- Column groups: Line Item ID, Name, Status
- Sample 2
- Column groups: Line Item ID, Budget and Pacing fields
- Sample 3
Available column groups
The following are available column groups for Partial SDFs. Each group contains one or more columns from the SDF Line Item file format. If a column group has more than one column, all columns from that group must be included in the uploaded file.

Considerations
Do the following before attempting to upload a Partial SDF, make sure of the following:
- The Line Item Id column is present and populated for all entries.
- All included columns are part of a supported Partial SDF column group.
- All columns in the represented column groups are included.
- There are no spaces between commas and the column values they separate.
- Each value in a present entry is the intended value for that column.
- If updating line items from different advertisers, upload your Partial SDF at the shared partner level. You can't update two line items under different partners in the same SDF.
