How can I get Gemini Code Assist for free?
We recommend trying Gemini Code Assist for individuals. Go to VS Code or JetBrains IntelliJ and install the Gemini Code Assist extension. Sign in with a personal Gmail account that's not associated with Workspace.
I installed the Gemini Code Assist extension in my IDE, but it says my account is ineligible for the free version, Gemini Code Assist for individuals, and is asking me if I want to input a Google Cloud project. Is this expected behavior?
Gemini Code Assist for individuals does not require you to enter a Google Cloud project.
Why your account might be ineligible
If you're encountering a message saying you are not eligible for Gemini Code Assist for individuals, then it's mostly likely because of the type of Google Account you're using.
The free version of Gemini Code Assist, Gemini Code Assist for individuals, is not yet available for Google Workspace accounts or people under the age of consent in their jurisdictions.
If you prefer to use an email address associated with Google Workspace, we encourage you to speak with your IT administrator about getting a license for Gemini Code Assist Standard or Enterprise, the business editions of Gemini Code Assist.

If this is the case, we recommend signing back in with your personal Gmail account.
