Users answering a call can switch between calls or merge the calls into a conference call.\n\n*** ** * ** ***\n\nResponding to a call\n--------------------\n\nThe notification for an incoming call displays the caller's name (if known) or number, along with buttons allowing the user to respond.\nThe Answer and Decline buttons in this incoming-call notification are colored green and red, respectively, to help the user easily distinguish each action\n\nThe call notification persists until the user:\n\n- Answers the call\n- Declines the call\n- Misses the call because the caller stops calling\n\nWhen the user selects the Answer button, Dialer connects to the call and displays the [in-call status screen](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/managing-calls#in-call_status_screens). The Decline button dismisses the notification, but users can still find info about the missed call in the [Notification Center](/cars/design/automotive-os/product-experience/system-ui/notifications/how-car-notifications-work#how_the_notification_center_works) or [Recents](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/viewing-recent-calls).\n**Note:** If the user touches the notification without selecting a button, the call continues to ring and the in-call status screen appears with Answer and Decline buttons. \n[Placing calls\nHow to make calls in Dialer](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/handling-calls) \n[Managing calls\nInformation on in-call controls](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/managing-calls)\n\n*** ** * ** ***\n\nAnswering a call during another call\n------------------------------------\n\nWhile already on a call, a user can receive a notification of another incoming call.\n\nIf the user answers the incoming call, Dialer takes the following actions:\n\n- Places the current call on hold\n- Connects to the incoming call\n- Displays information about the new call in the main portion of the in-call status screen\n- Displays information about the held call at the top of the screen\n\nWhen a user receives a new call while already on a call, a notification offers the option to answer the call -- which will put the current call on hold After the call is answered, the in-call screen reflects the status of the new call, while info about the held call displays at the top (with a button for switching calls)\n\nWhen there is an active call and an on-hold call, a user can:\n\n- Switch between calls using the switch button at the top of the screen\n- Merge the active and on-hold calls to create a [conference call](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/receiving-calls#merging_calls_into_a_conference_call) if one does not already exist\n- Add the active call to an existing conference call that's on hold\n\n[Managing calls\nInformation on in-call controls](/cars/design/automotive-os/apps/dialer/interaction-model/managing-calls)\n\n*** ** * ** ***\n\nMerging calls into a conference call\n------------------------------------\n\nWhen a user receives and answers a call while on a call, the original call is placed on hold. A status bar at the top of the screen shows the number of callers added to the conference call and the call duration.\nA conference call with two callers\n\nIf a user receives and answers a call when already on a conference call, the conference call is placed on hold. The user can select the merge call button to combine the calls. The in-call status screen then displays a scrollable list of the callers.\nA conference call with three callers and a scroll bar **Note:** The number of callers that can be added to a conference call is dependent on and limited by the user's phone and phone plan. At a minimum, a conference call consists of three parties: the Dialer user and two callers.\n\nWhen the user selects the End call button, the conference call is ended for all parties."]]
