Google çoğu metin tabanlı dosyayı ve belirli kodlanmış doküman biçimlerini dizine ekleyebilir. Dizine eklediğimiz en yaygın dosya türleri şunlardır:

Dosya türüne göre arama
Sonuçların belirli bir dosya türüyle veya uzantısıyla sınırlandırılması için Google Arama'da filetype: operatörünü kullanabilirsiniz. Örneğin, filetype:rtf galway sorgusu, içinde "galway" ifadesi geçen ve .rtf ile biten RTF dosyalarını ve URL'leri arar.
