Acerca de los sitemaps
Los sitemaps son archivos en los que se proporciona información sobre las páginas, los vídeos y otros archivos de tu sitio, así como sobre las relaciones que hay entre ellos. Los buscadores, como Google, leen estos archivos para rastrear los sitios de forma más eficiente. Los sitemaps informan a los buscadores de qué archivos de su sitio considera que son importantes para ti y, además, incluyen datos importantes sobre ellos.
Por ejemplo, en el caso de las páginas, pueden indicar cuándo se actualizaron por última vez y si tienen versiones en otros idiomas.
Con los sitemaps, puedes proporcionar información sobre determinados tipos de contenido que se encuentran en tus páginas, incluidos vídeos, imágenes y noticias. Por ejemplo:
En las entradas de vídeos de un sitemap, se pueden indicar la duración, la categoría y la calificación por edad recomendada de los vídeos.
En las entradas de imágenes de un sitemap, se puede incluir la ubicación de las imágenes que se incluyen en una página.
En las entradas de noticias de un sitemap, se pueden incluir el título del artículo y la fecha de publicación.
¿Necesito un sitemap?
Por lo general, si las páginas de tu sitio están bien enlazadas, Google podrá detectar la mayoría de ellas.
Con "bien enlazadas" nos referimos a que tus visitantes deberían poder acceder a todas las páginas que consideres importantes navegando por tu sitio, ya sea usando el menú del sitio o siguiendo enlaces que hayas colocado en tus páginas. No obstante, un sitemap puede mejorar el rastreo de los sitios grandes o muy complejos, así como el de los archivos muy especializados.
Es posible que necesites un sitemap en estos casos:
Tu sitio es grande. Por lo general, en sitios de gran tamaño es más difícil asegurarse de que cada página esté enlazada por al menos otra página del sitio. En este caso, es más probable que el Googlebot no descubra algunas de tus páginas nuevas.
Tu sitio es nuevo y hay pocos enlaces externos que dirigen a él. El robot de Google y otros rastreadores web acceden a las URLs que se encuentran en las páginas rastreadas anteriormente para rastrear la Web. En consecuencia, es posible que no detecte tus páginas si no hay enlaces a ellas en otros sitios.
Tu sitio incluye una gran cantidad de contenido rich media, como vídeo o imágenes, o aparece en Google News. Google puede tener en cuenta información adicional de los sitemaps en la Búsqueda.
Es posible que no necesites un sitemap en estos casos:
Tu sitio es pequeño. Con "pequeño", nos referimos a sitios web de 500 páginas o menos. Ten en cuenta solo las páginas que quieras que aparezcan en los resultados de búsqueda.
Tu sitio está totalmente enlazado de forma interna. En este caso, el robot de Google puede encontrar todas las páginas importantes de tu sitio siguiendo enlaces desde la página principal.
No tienes muchos archivos multimedia (vídeo, imagen) o páginas de noticias que quieras que aparezcan en los resultados de búsqueda. Con los sitemaps, puedes ayudarnos a encontrar e interpretar los vídeos, las imágenes y los artículos de noticias que hay en tu sitio. Si no ves necesario que aparezcan estos resultados en la Búsqueda, es posible que no necesites un sitemap.
