L'étude mondiale sur les terres (GLS) de 1975 est une collection mondiale d'images provenant du scanner multispectral (MSS) Landsat. La plupart des scènes ont été acquises par Landsat 1 à 3 entre 1972 et 1983. Quelques lacunes dans les données Landsat 1 à 3 ont été comblées avec des scènes acquises par Landsat 4 à 5 au cours des années 1982 à 1987. Ces données contiennent quatre bandes spectrales : vert, rouge, une bande NIR et une bande SWIR. Dans la présentation en fausses couleurs typique, les images apparaissent en rouge, car la bande NIR, affichée en rouge, met en évidence la végétation.
