BigEarthNet est une nouvelle archive de référence Sentinel-2 à grande échelle, composée de 590 326 blocs d'images Sentinel-2. Pour construire BigEarthNet, 125 tuiles Sentinel-2 ont été acquises entre juin 2017 et mai 2018 dans 10 pays européens (Autriche, Belgique, Finlande, Irlande, Kosovo, Lituanie, Luxembourg, Portugal, Serbie et Suisse). Toutes les tuiles ont été corrigées atmosphériquement par l'outil de génération et de mise en forme des produits Sentinel-2 de niveau 2A (sen2cor). Ils ont ensuite été divisés en 590 326 zones d'image non chevauchantes. Chaque patch d'image a été annoté avec les différentes classes de couverture terrestre (c'est-à-dire plusieurs libellés) fournies par la base de données CORINE Land Cover de l'année 2018 (CLC 2018).
