When you mark an issue as a duplicate, its\nstatus is changed to **Duplicate** and it is considered closed.\n\nYou must have **Edit Issues** [permission](../concepts/access-control) for the\ncomponents that contain both issues in order to mark an issue as a duplicate of\nanother.\n\nMark an issue as duplicate\n--------------------------\n\nWhen you mark an issue as duplicate, you indicate that the content of the issue\nis reported in another issue, called the *canonical issue* . The canonical issue\nmay be chosen because it's older, has more visibility, or encompasses a larger\nscope when compared to the duplicate issue. You can mark an issue as duplicate\neither on that issue's page or in a search results page\n([using a bulk edit](../guides/edit-issue-bulk)). You can also mark an issue as\na duplicate from the canonical issue page by navigating to the **Duplicates**\ntab and clicking **Add**.\n\nWhen you mark an issue as duplicate, it is considered closed and given a status\nof **Duplicate** . The **Reporter** , **Assignee** , **Verifier** , and any users or\ngroups in the **Collaborators** and **CC** lists are added to the **CC** list of\nthe canonical issue. Hotlists are also added to the canonical bug. The duplicate\nissue appears in the **Duplicates** tab of the canonical issue. The duplicate\nissue page indicates the duplicate status with a chip in the top bar. You can\nhold the pointer over the link in the top bar or status field to display a\n[hovercard](../concepts/hovercards) for the canonical issue.\n\n### Duplicates tab on the issue details page\n\nInformation for an issue marked as duplicate is found in the **Duplicates** tab\nin the on the details page of the canonical issue.\n\nThe number of duplicate issues that a canonical issue has is displayed in\nparenthesis within the **Duplicates** tab's title. Clicking on the tab displays\na list of issues that are marked as duplicate of the canonical issue. The\nduplicate issues table displays the following values:\n\n- **Title**: Click the title to open the issue's page.\n- **Team**: The team associated with the duplicate issue.\n- **ID**: Click the ID of the duplicate issue to copy it to the clipboard.\n- **Created**: The date and time the issue was created.\n- **Reporter**: The user who reported the issue.\n\nMark an issue as a duplicate\n----------------------------\n\nTo mark an issue as a duplicate of another:\n\n1. Open the issue.\n\n2. In the **App Bar** near the top of the page, click **Mark as Duplicate**.\n\n3. In the text field that appears, you have two options. You can search for the\n canonical issue (the issue you want to remain active) by typing a search\n query. Alternatively, you can enter the issue id.\n\n | To view more information about each search result, click the icon to the right of the issue title to open the issue in a new tab.\n4. If you searched for the canonical issue, select it from the search results.\n\n5. Click **Close as duplicate**.\n\n The issue status will now indicate that the issue has been marked as a\n duplicate of another issue.\n\n| You can also mark an issue as duplicate by changing its status to **Duplicate** in the **Issue fields** panel or as part of a [bulk edit](/issue-tracker/guides/edit-issue-bulk).\n\nUnmark an issue as duplicate\n----------------------------\n\nAn issue can be unmarked as duplicate in several ways:\n\n- Click the **Unmark Duplicate** button in the App Bar.\n- Click the **Re-open** link beneath the status field.\n- Change the status of the issue.\n\nAn issue can also be unmarked as duplicate from the canonical issue page. From\nthe **Duplicates** tab, find the issue you want to unmark as duplicate. Click\nthe **More options** button on the right side and select **Remove duplicate**\nfrom the drop-down menu.\n\nIf you click **Unmark Duplicate** , **Re-open** , or **Remove duplicate** , the\nstatus for the issue becomes **New** if there is no **Assignee** , or\n**Assigned** if there is an **Assignee**.\n\nOnce unmarked, the issue no longer appears in the canonical issue's\n**Duplicates** tab. However, people that were automatically added to the **CC**\nfor the canonical issue remain on that list unless explicitly removed.\n\nWhat's next\n-----------\n\n- [Mark an issue as blocking another issue](/issue-tracker/guides/block-issue)"]]
